Cure for:  The leaves are the major constituent of an herbal drug 'ShankhaPushpi', a popular brain tonic. The drug is used as antiepileptic. Shankhapushpi is also useful in insanity, insomnia, delirium, chronic cough, asthma, haematemesis (Vomiting up of blood), pyuria (urine which contains pus), dysuria (painful urination), seminal weakness. It is a sovereign remedy in bowel complaints especially dysentery.  One study shows shankhpushpi to have anti-ulcer effects due to augmentation of mucosal defensive factors like mucin secretion and glycoproteins. The ethanolic extract of the plant reduces total serum cholesterol, triglycerides, phospholipids and nonesterfied fatty-acid. It is also useful to reduce blood pressure, tension and helps in mental disease.
